The value of this practice is noticeable on several levels: Physically I have less arthritis pain, am more able to do yard work, housework, yoga, and walking. On another level, it shows up in a higher level of tolerance for the frustrations in caring for my elderly mother. I seem to have far more patience, can empathize more fully, and simply do not feel impatient as I have in the past. In another area, I’ve appreciated the introduction to several traditions of spiritual practice and have been inspired to delve deeper into the history of different traditions. My reading preferences have changed to include far more books/articles/internet research on religion and spirituality. I’ve incorporated more mindfulness practices in my daily life. I am calmer, more thoughtful, balanced, and, wishful thinking perhaps, but maybe more able to formulate words to talk about these ideas with friends and acquaintances.
